The Artist: Takahashi Shōtei (Hiroaki)

Hiroaki Takahashi (1871–1945), also widely known by his art name Shōtei, was a distinguished Japanese artist of the Shin-Hanga ('new prints') movement.
Born in Tokyo, his artistic training began under his uncle, Matsumoto Fūko. Initially, Hiroaki focused on Nihonga (traditional Japanese-style painting) and created illustrations for various purposes, including designs for department stores.
