The Artwork: Itō Jakuchū: Toad and puffer fish sumo wrestlers - Streetart-Style FR, Japanese Wall Art Print With Frame

The original Toad and Puffer Fish Sumo Wrestlers is an ink painting by Itō Jakuchū (1716–1800), one of the most independent voices of the Edo-period art world. This version is a modern streetart treatment of that source: the two animals — a toad squared off against a spiny puffer fish — are lifted from Jakuchū's brush into a bold graphic field with contemporary typography, sitting at the seam between Edo chōjū-giga (animal caricature) and present-day poster art.
